Recently, the sharp increase in liquefied gas prices in Georgia has become a major topic of public and economic discussions. A new wave of dissatisfaction has arisen among drivers and consumers, as the price of this alternative and affordable fuel is gradually approaching gasoline prices.
The import of liquefied gas in Georgia has increased by almost 40%. If in January-May 2025, one liter of fuel (excluding taxes) averaged $0.37, this year the figure has risen to $0.50.
In January-May 2026, Georgia purchased 22,705 tons of liquefied propane worth a total of $11.434 million, while last year's figure for the same period was 12,506 tons ($4.550 million).
Alongside the increase in import prices, retail prices have also risen. If a month ago the price of one liter of liquefied gas at branded gas stations was a maximum of 1.5 lari, today it ranges from 1.55 to 1.70 lari.
The list of importing countries, by the way, is unknown. The statistical service of Georgia has reported that information about which country the liquefied propane comes from is confidential.
In this context, Kazakhstan is being considered as one of the alternative markets from which Georgia may import liquefied gas.
