A new public criminal case has been initiated against Gagik Khachatryan, the former head of the State Revenue Committee and former Minister of Finance, as reported by the Prosecutor General's Office: The case involves bribery, embezzlement, illegal transfer of property, and concealing the criminal origin of money.
In particular:
- Receiving bribes of particularly large amounts from S.M., the director of the companies "Progress Armenia" and "Local Developers," and acquiring property in return,
- Embezzlement of 174 million 581 thousand drams in the framework of construction works of the "Dilijan" educational center,
- A scheme for the illegal transfer of property valued at 208 million 908 thousand drams belonging to Brusov University,
- Money laundering of particularly large amounts by concealing the criminal origin of 151 million 126 thousand drams:
The Khachatryans are also involved in a case of confiscation of illegally obtained property, which has been under investigation in the Anti-Corruption Court since 2024. In this matter, the state demands the confiscation from the former influential Minister of Finance and related persons, including his sons:
- 193 real estate properties, including 46 apartments in the Center administrative district, 89 properties in Kotayk region,
- Shares in 29 legal entities, including "MEGASPORT" and "MEGA FOOD,"
- 14 movable properties,
- Bonds worth approximately 1 billion 451 million USD,
- A deposit of approximately 147 thousand USD,
- Claims for loans amounting to approximately 23 million 81 thousand USD, 409 million 806 thousand drams, and 9750 euros,
- Approximately 17 billion 761.5 million drams:
Earlier today, the Investigative Committee announced that a decision has been made to arrest former head of the SRC Gagik Khachatryan, noting that searches have been conducted:
The investigation announced in early June that while still serving as Minister of Education, Armen Ashotyan arranged for the property belonging to Brusov University in Yerevan to be sold to then-chairman of the SRC Gagik Khachatryan and his son. The value of the property was 208 million drams. According to the investigation, to conceal the origin of the property, it was first registered in the name of a close associate of the Khachatryans and then sold to Gagik Khachatryan's son at nearly three times less - for 75 million drams. Ashotyan's lawyer Ruben Melikyan described the charges as absurd.
