YEREVAN, July 3. Armenia's National Assembly has adopted amendments to the Criminal Code in an extraordinary session.
Deputy Vaagn Aleksanyan stated that penalties for bribing, receiving a bribe, and mediating in voter bribery have been tightened, and strict professional restrictions will be imposed on individuals who commit such crimes.
“Voter bribery remains one of the main threats to the democratic system, as it violates citizens' free will and undermines public trust in electoral processes,” noted Aleksanyan.
Individuals convicted of voter bribery will be permanently barred from holding positions in state and municipal services, as well as administrative and discretionary positions. This restriction will apply regardless of whether the conviction has been expunged or lifted.
