Visa and Mastercard have joined the Agentic Payments Alliance (APA). The initiative to create the alliance comes from the stablecoin platform Rain, according to Finextra.
The alliance will operate as a working coalition that will be jointly governed by its founders. Participants (already more than 25 organizations) will collaboratively define the charter and mission of the union.
It is expected that the first phase of work will include joint research and the development of conceptual frameworks, testing of standards for agent identification and authorization, as well as collaboration with regulatory bodies.
“No company should unilaterally decide how agents will conduct transactions. This should come from infrastructure-building platforms, rule-setting regulators, and innovators who know best how agents are applied today,” said Rain CEO Farouk Malik.
