The United States will impose unprecedented sanctions against Iran, announced the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. In an interview with Newsmax, Scott Besent stated that more details will be announced next week:
“This will be a combination of unprecedented measures of economic isolation and the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in nothing being able to enter Iranian ports or exit from there,” Besent noted.
The Secretary of Defense also stated that the U.S. can indefinitely continue its maritime blockade of Iran, which, according to him, has already caused serious economic damage to Iran, which is already facing significant economic difficulties:
“U.S. naval forces can maintain such a blockade indefinitely, as our patrolling ships will be replaced by new ones, as we have done, and so on,” Hegset told reporters.
According to Associated Press, the American aircraft carrier George Washington, stationed in the Pacific, has been heading towards the Middle East for several days now.
The Secretary also denied reports that the American aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, involved in the maritime blockade of Iran, is facing supply issues, and that its crew is already experiencing psychological problems due to spending too much time at sea.
The U.S. Vice President also stated that the U.S. will achieve its two main objectives in Iran - to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to maintain stable energy prices worldwide.
So far, Tehran has not responded to the statements made by American officials.
