The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has embarked on a two-day working visit to Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the government, specifying that Pashinyan will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the capital, Bishkek, and related events.
The Prime Minister will hold meetings with foreign partners.
Currently, only the upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is known. On August 28, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced that President Putin would meet with Prime Minister Pashinyan on September 1 in Bishkek to discuss Armenia's aspirations for EU membership.
Recently, Putin's spokesperson also commented on the expected dialogue: "We cannot be more Armenian than the Armenians themselves. And, of course, the Armenians will decide their fate themselves. We suggest that they do just that — hold a referendum," emphasized Dmitry Peskov.
From Moscow, it is consistently stated that it is impossible to be simultaneously part of the EU and the EAEU. They insist that Armenia must hold a referendum to choose between the European and Eurasian unions.
Last week, Pashinyan announced in the National Assembly that Yerevan would soon begin the process of applying for EU membership.
