Vanadzor project chief arrested on corruption charges

Natalya Lapaouri's arrest by the Anti-Corruption Committee

Natalya Lapaouri, identified by investigators as N.L., who headed a project implemented by Vanadzor Municipality, has been arrested as part of criminal proceedings initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee. She has been charged with accepting a bribe, embezzling property entrusted to her, money laundering, and official forgery, Factor.am reports, citing the Anti-Corruption Committee.

“The expert involved in the same project has also been arrested and is accused of aiding the acceptance of a bribe. In the interests of the preliminary investigation, we cannot provide any further information at this time,” the committee said.

According to the media outlet, the arrested expert is Davit Melkonyan. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports that Lapaouri headed a €4 million European Union project in Vanadzor and Gyumri for four years.
