Ucom Expands 5G Coverage and Continues Network Modernization

The company says its 5G network is now available in 48 cities across Armenia and in more than 600 settlements.

Ucom says it is continuing its large-scale mobile network development and modernization program, steadily widening access to 5G and improving connectivity across Armenia.

According to the company, the ongoing infrastructure upgrade has allowed Ucom to build the broadest 5G coverage in Armenia. The next-generation network now reaches not only Yerevan but also remote communities. Ucom says 5G is already available in 48 cities and more than 600 settlements, as well as along major highways and at border crossing points, providing reliable mobile connectivity to 94.6% of the population.

The project goes beyond installing new 5G base stations. The company is also upgrading existing infrastructure in phases, increasing network capacity and continuously optimizing performance. Ucom says those efforts help the network absorb rising data traffic, deliver faster speeds and maintain stable connectivity, particularly in high-traffic areas.

“For Ucom, developing 5G is not simply about adding new coverage areas to the map. People are increasingly relying on mobile internet for work, education, entertainment, travel, and everyday services, and the network needs to evolve ahead of these changing demands. That is why we continue to invest not only in expanding coverage but also in improving the overall quality and capabilities of our network. Our goal is to build infrastructure that is ready to meet not only today’s digital needs, but also those of the years ahead,” Ucom General Director Ralph Yirikian said.

Partnerships with leading global technology companies remain another key part of Ucom’s network development strategy. The company said it is continuing its cooperation with Nokia on next-generation telecommunications technologies, including further 5G development, network automation, the use of artificial intelligence and future autonomous networking solutions.

According to the statement, the Ucom-Nokia cooperation is aimed not only at expanding the technical capabilities of the existing network, but also at building infrastructure that can quickly adapt to growing data consumption, the development of new digital services and future technological requirements.
