Turkey Expects Objective Treatment from EU

Hakan Fidan emphasizes that EU membership is a strategic goal

Ankara expects the European Union to develop relations with Turkey based on objective criteria and without discriminatory approaches. This was stated by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan after negotiations with the head of the European diplomatic service, Kaja Kallas, and the European commissioners.

“Today we hosted the high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy, Ms. Kaja Kallas, the commissioner for enlargement, Marta Koss, and the commissioner for home affairs and migration, Magnus Brunner. EU membership remains a strategic goal for our country. We are ready to develop our relations with the EU on this basis. We expect that the EU will also promote relations with Turkey based on objective criteria and values, and without any discrimination,” Fidan wrote on X.

He expressed hope that “the joint visit of three key members of the European Commission will be an important step towards bringing Turkey-EU relations to the desired level.”

During the discussions, the parties “assessed the current state of regional and global issues, primarily the situation in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.”
