The Gelincik border crossing on the Turkey-Iran frontier in the Başkale district of Van province is scheduled to reopen in 2027, according to Ermenihaber.
The checkpoint was closed in 1990 for security reasons and has remained shut for 36 years. The report says work related to reopening the border gate has recently made progress.
According to the publication, Turkish authorities expect the crossing to boost trade and tourism flows between Turkey and Iran once it resumes operations.
The reopening of the Gelincik checkpoint would add to border infrastructure between the two neighboring countries as they seek to strengthen economic ties.
