The New York house where Donald Trump spent the first four years of his life has been sold. According to the Associated Press, the property in the Jamaica Estates neighborhood of Queens changed hands for $1.93 million after an extensive renovation.
The five-room Tudor-style home was built in 1940 by Trump’s father, developer Fred Trump. The US president’s family has long since ceased to own the property.
The current seller, developer Tommy Lin, bought the house last year for $835,000 and then invested about $500,000 in an eight-month reconstruction project. The renovation added a modern kitchen designed for professional cooking, herringbone wood floors and spa-style bathrooms.
The purchase agreement was signed in July, and details of the $1.93 million sale appeared on real estate websites on Friday. The identity of the new owner has not been disclosed.
The house has changed owners several times in recent years. Zillow data show that in 2017, a few months after Trump was elected president, it was sold for $2.14 million. In 2019, the property was listed for $2.9 million, but no buyer was found.
Before the latest renovation, the house had fallen into serious disrepair. According to the New York Post, a burst pipe caused water damage and mold, and the abandoned building had become a shelter for feral cats.
The home had also previously been rented out for short stays through Airbnb, when it was owned by Trump Birth Home LLC. At that time, the house featured life-size cardboard cutouts of Trump, copies of his book “The Art of the Deal,” and a People magazine cover bearing his image.
Trump spent his early childhood in the house before his family moved away. He later built a career in real estate, including the development of Trump Tower in Manhattan, before entering politics.
