US President Donald Trump said countries that did not provide any support to Washington during the crisis related to Iran and the shipping problems in the Strait of Hormuz should compensate the United States for its costs.
Trump made the remarks on Truth Social, stressing that oil shipments move through the Strait of Hormuz. He said countries around the world that did not help the US “should reimburse America’s expenses” and would do so once what he described as a “crisis completely accompanied by deception” comes to an end.
Earlier, Trump said he would decide whether to agree to the resumption of talks with Tehran. He also noted that he was not opposed in principle to a diplomatic solution to the issue.
The comments come as tensions linked to Iran continue to shape international debate over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and the transport of oil through the waterway.
