Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to travel to the United States for a state visit from Wednesday to Friday, according to a confirmation from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But with the trip only two days away, it remains unclear which Chinese executives will accompany him.
On the U.S. side, several corporate leaders have already been identified for a dinner expected in Washington on Thursday as part of the Trump-Xi summit. A person familiar with the matter said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is among those expected to attend. Microsoft and the White House did not immediately respond to CNBC requests for comment.
Senior U.S. officials have also named other executives expected at the event. They include Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk, Citigroup’s Jane Fraser, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Apple’s Tim Cook and Dell’s Michael Dell.
On the Chinese side, Reuters reported last week that business representatives under consideration included executives from BYD, Xiaomi, CATL, Gotion, Hisense, Wanxiang, Bank of China and COFCO Group. BYD declined to comment to CNBC, while the other companies did not immediately respond.
The report notes that as tensions between the U.S. and China have risen in recent years, both governments have placed companies from the other country on blacklists and imposed restrictions affecting business activity.
