After Tour of Armenia, ministry reviews sports digitalization and economic potential

Armenia’s education, science, culture and sports ministry reviewed the first international multi-stage cycling tour and outlined next steps.

Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan met staff of the Sports Management Center led by director Khoren Zargaryan to review the results of the country’s first-ever Tour of Armenia, a multi-stage professional cycling race.

According to the ministry, Andreasyan thanked the center’s team for organizing the event, saying its successful delivery was the result of coordinated teamwork. She said the race was an entirely new experience for Armenia, which had never before hosted an international multi-stage cycling event, requiring organizers to learn on the go, stay flexible and respond quickly to unexpected issues.

Andreasyan said the Sports Management Center was created about two years ago to give the sector a specialized institution, move relations with sports federations into a more structured framework and take charge of major sporting events. In her assessment, the successful staging of Tour of Armenia showed that work in that direction has been effective.

The minister also said Tour of Armenia is intended to become an annual event. She noted that reviewing this year’s experience should help make future editions more organized. Feedback on the race has been mostly positive, she said, both in terms of organization and execution, while coverage by several reputable international platforms gave Armenia added visibility.

Sports Management Center director Khoren Zargaryan thanked the minister for her trust and support. He said cooperation across the ministry and fast responses from the broader team made it possible to take more effective decisions despite the heavy workload. Even during preparations for the race, the center continued its routine work and maintained links with sports federations and infrastructure partners, he added.

The meeting also covered upcoming plans for the sector, including management reforms, digitalization, the creation of new infrastructure and efforts to realize the economic potential of sports. Officials said a sports management information system is expected to be launched soon, helping digitalize several processes related to work with federations and supporting stronger transparency, accountability and monitoring mechanisms.
