Thailand has unveiled a national semiconductor strategy that targets $80 billion in investment and the creation of 230,000 jobs by 2050.
Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas said the plan is designed to build a fully integrated national chip manufacturing ecosystem by 2050, generating $150 billion in annual revenue. He said the strategy would provide investors with clear long-term direction.
Thailand already has a chip production base, though it is largely focused on assembly and packaging. According to the minister, the new plan is meant to move the country into higher-margin segments of the global semiconductor supply chain.
State support for the sector will include tax incentives, regulatory reforms, workforce development, infrastructure upgrades, and investment in research and development.

The strategy will be implemented in stages. The initial phase will focus on strengthening semiconductor packaging and testing, followed by expansion into chip design and semiconductor wafer production.
Thailand will prioritize three technology areas: photonics, power semiconductors and sensors.
The Board of Investment had previously published the national strategy and then withdrawn the statement. It was later republished without any changes to the investment and employment targets.
