Markets brace for Fed decision and Dreamforce 2026

This week’s focus is on the rate decision, U.S. macro data and a heavy schedule of corporate appearances.

The earnings season may be largely over, but the week ahead is still packed for U.S. equity investors. According to CNBC, the market’s attention is centered on two themes: the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting and a busy run of major industry conferences.

The main event comes on Wednesday, when the Fed concludes its two-day policy meeting. Markets are pricing in nearly a 90% chance of an interest rate increase after last week’s August core CPI reading showed a 0.3% monthly gain, slightly above expectations. Core CPI excludes the more volatile food and energy components.

Earlier on the same day, investors will also get the August retail sales report. That release matters because roughly two-thirds of U.S. GDP is tied to consumer spending. On Thursday, the focus shifts to housing data, including August housing starts and pending home sales. Friday brings the August industrial production and capacity utilization report, which should offer a fresh reading on the health of the manufacturing sector.

On the corporate side, the marquee event is Salesforce’s Dreamforce 2026, running from Tuesday through Thursday in San Francisco. The annual gathering brings together tens of thousands of clients, vendors and technology executives. CNBC also notes that Marc Benioff’s annual benefit concert for UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals will feature Usher and Gwen Stefani this year.

CNBC Investing Club says Salesforce is heading into Dreamforce from a much stronger position than earlier in the year, when the stock was under pressure amid fears about artificial intelligence disruption. The shares have climbed 50% over the past three months and are nearly back to flat for the year, as investors have become less concerned about AI’s impact on enterprise software.

The week’s conference calendar also includes a long list of corporate appearances. On Monday, Cardinal Health, Johnson & Johnson and Eli Lilly are set to speak at Morgan Stanley’s annual global healthcare conference. On Tuesday, Wells Fargo will appear at Barclays’ global financial services conference, Honeywell at Morgan Stanley’s Laguna Conference, and Home Depot at Goldman Sachs’ global consumer and retail conference. On Wednesday, GE Vernova, Eaton and Boeing are scheduled at the Laguna Conference, while Goldman Sachs and Capital One will present at Barclays’ event. Johnson & Johnson rounds out the week with an appearance at Deutsche Bank’s healthcare summit.

The economic calendar also includes initial jobless claims on Thursday. CNBC separately flags Hain Celestial (HAIN), Dave & Buster's (PLAY), Trip.com (TCOM), LuxExperience (LUXE) and Lenna (LEN) among the names on this week’s watchlist.
