Cardiovascular diseases and cancer are among the main causes of premature death, while tobacco use is one of their most important preventable risk factors. Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said this in a post on her Facebook page.
She noted that this is precisely why the ban on smoking in public places was introduced.
In 2025, 3,639 people under the age of 65 died in Armenia from diseases of the circulatory system and malignant neoplasms. Of those who died, 2,462 were men.
“This is precisely why legislation restricting the use of tobacco and nicotine products and protecting public health is not simply a ban. It protects people’s lives and health,” the post said.
