The Ministry of Environment has launched a series of awareness meetings regarding legislative restrictions on plastic products, which will come into effect on January 1, 2027, with various stakeholders. The first meeting included representatives from major retail chains and supermarkets.
During the discussion, legislative regulations concerning the restriction of polyethylene bags and single-use plastic products were presented, including their application scope, characteristics of the transition period, and safe alternative solutions from an environmental impact perspective.
The meeting was led by Lusine Avetisyan, head of the Strategic Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment, who outlined the main objectives of the legislative changes and the expected environmental outcomes, emphasizing that the initiative aims to reduce plastic waste, protect the environment, and foster a culture of more responsible consumption.
During the discussion, detailed clarifications were provided to businesses regarding the application of the legislation, prohibited product types, anticipated exceptions, and safe alternatives. Participants had the opportunity to present their observations and raise practical questions related to the sector.
The ministry emphasizes the importance of ongoing dialogue between the public and private sectors, believing that such discussion formats will contribute to the effective and smooth implementation of legislative changes. The series of awareness meetings will continue, also involving other stakeholders in the sector.
