Serbia Plans to Join the Schengen Zone

Serbia aims to join the Schengen Zone by the end of 2027.

Serbia plans to join the Schengen Zone by the end of 2027, without waiting for full EU membership. This was reported by "Radio Belgrade" and "Izvestia". Belgrade has already formed a special working group and approved a plan for necessary reforms.

Although President Aleksandar Vučić previously denied the cancellation of the visa-free regime with Russia, the chairman of the parliamentary committee Dragan Stanojević confirmed that joining Schengen will automatically require the introduction of visas for Russian citizens in accordance with EU requirements.

Similarly, Montenegro is taking a similar step, deciding to cancel the visa-free regime for Russian and Belarusian citizens starting November 1, 2026, on its path to EU integration.
