From September 1, the one-time childbirth benefit will be 500,000 drams

The government has approved a new regulation

From September 1, 2026, and thereafter, the one-time childbirth benefit will be set at 500,000 drams for children born, regardless of the order of birth in the family.

The corresponding decision was made at a government meeting.

According to the government, the current amounts of benefits based on the order of birth will continue to apply for children born until August 31, 2026, inclusive. This means that the new unified amount of 500,000 drams will not have retroactive effect.

After the changes, parents will be able to apply for the benefit until the last day of the month in which the child turns one year old. After that, the submitted application will be rejected.

The project also envisions primarily moving the assignment of the one-time childbirth benefit to the online space. If there are sufficient data in existing state registries, the system will automatically assign the benefit or reject its assignment without the intervention of a specialist.

However, according to the government, there will be exceptions. The online exclusive procedure will not apply, for example, to certain diplomatic officials, children born abroad and registered there, guardians, as well as in cases where the available data in state information systems are insufficient to assign the benefit.

Legislative changes also establish that if the birth of the child is registered by the competent authority of a foreign state, the newborn must have a passport of the RA citizen to receive the benefit, and at the time of application, the parent and child must be in Armenia with the exceptions provided by the project.
