Samvel Karapetyan’s house arrest extended by another two months

The Anti-Corruption Court issued the decision on September 17.

Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court on September 17 extended by another two months the house arrest of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia party and president of the Tashir Group holding.

The previously imposed preventive measure remains in force: Karapetyan was arrested on June 18, 2025, and since December 30 has been under house arrest and bail.

On April 30, 2026, the Anti-Corruption Court rejected a motion to cancel the house arrest order.

About the criminal case

On March 27, 2026, Armenia’s Investigative Committee said it had completed the investigation into the criminal case against Samvel Karapetyan and two other citizens.

Karapetyan has been charged under five Criminal Code articles: tax evasion, property theft, money laundering, illegal activity through a legal entity, and public calls to seize power and violently overthrow the constitutional order. According to the source, the latter accusation followed his statement in support of the Armenian Apostolic Church and Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II.

Karapetyan denies the charges brought against him.
