In the last 6 months, over 600,000 tourists have entered Georgia from Russia, which is a 5% increase compared to the previous year. This was reported by aliq.ge.
In the list of the top 10 countries with the highest number of visits registered in the second quarter, only one EU member state is included — Germany.
It should be noted that in the second quarter of 2026, the number of international visitors to Georgia decreased by 4.5%, while the number of tourist visits decreased by 2.7%.
Representatives of the tourism sector attribute the decline in international visitors to the political situation in the country, inadequate infrastructure, and the policies pursued by the Tourism Agency.
According to Tsotne Japariadze, director of Traffic Travel LLC, tourism in Georgia has noticeably declined, especially from western/european countries. He stated that since the opening of borders after Covid-19, the number of high-paying tourists has not decreased this much.
Miranda Esakia, co-founder of the Mountain Resort Business Association, stated that due to infrastructure problems, tourists from western countries no longer return.
“In the last 4 years, many tourists were observed from Italy, Germany, and England because we have wonderful mountains; mountaineering was very attractive for these people. They came on their own initiative, but unfortunately, there are such significant infrastructure problems in Gudauri that these people no longer return. In July, the occupancy was 60%, then all bookings were canceled, and we dropped to 28% occupancy,” said Miranda Esakia.
