According to data recently published by the US Department of the Treasury, Russia's investments in US Treasury bonds increased to $29 million in May.
Of this amount, $26 million was allocated to long-term Treasury bonds, while $3 million was for short-term Treasury bonds. For comparison, in April, Russia's investments amounted to $26 million (of which $24 million were long-term and $2 million were short-term), and in March, it was $25 million (respectively $22 million and $3 million).
Documents indicate that the reduction of Russia's investments in US Treasury bonds began in the spring of 2018. In April of that year, the figure dropped from $96 billion to $48.7 billion, and in May, it fell to $14.9 billion.
According to the US Department of the Treasury, as of May last year, Japan remained the largest holder of US Treasury bonds, with investments of about $1.14 trillion. The United Kingdom was in second place with $948.6 billion, and China was third with $659.3 billion.
