The Russian government may allow the production and sale of gasoline and diesel fuel that meets lower environmental standards, including 'Euro-2' fuel, until July 2027. This is reported by 'Kommersant', citing a draft government decision.
The draft may also allow the import of fuel that meets these standards. The requirements of the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union will not apply to it.
The sale of 'Euro-2' fuel has been banned in Russia since 2013. It contains more sulfur and requires a simpler production process, which could help bring hundreds of thousands of tons of additional fuel to the market.
However, industry experts note that this step is unlikely to fully compensate for the volumes lost due to damage to oil refining plants. Additionally, 'Euro-2' may pose risks for some modern vehicles.
