Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met in Bishkek, Pashinyan’s press secretary Melanya Harutyunyan said.
The sides discussed progress in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, further border delimitation work and the next steps toward implementing TRIPP. They also emphasized expanding trade, economic and energy cooperation, including exports of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia and transit of various goods through Azerbaijan.
The leaders underscored the historic significance of the August 8, 2025 peace summit in Washington, the joint declaration signed by Pashinyan and Aliyev with U.S. President Donald Trump as witness, as well as the initialing of the Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Exports of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia, transit through Azerbaijan to Armenia of grain and other goods originating from third countries, as well as the establishment of trade relations between the two countries were highlighted as important practical manifestations of strengthening peace.
The leaders also welcomed contacts between the business communities and exchanged views on opportunities to further expand mutually beneficial economic, trade and energy cooperation. The sides noted the important role of the respective state commissions on delimitation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of continuing their work in accordance with agreements reached between the two countries.
The leaders discussed further practical steps related to implementing one of the key outcomes of the Washington peace summit, the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), and emphasized the importance of connectivity projects within the TRIPP framework.
Contacts involving parliamentarians and civil society representatives aimed at building confidence were assessed positively, with their importance noted in strengthening mutual trust and supporting the broader peace agenda. Pashinyan and Aliyev agreed to continue steps through direct bilateral contact aimed at consolidating lasting peace, normalizing interstate relations and strengthening connectivity.
Pashinyan traveled to Kyrgyzstan for a two-day working visit. In Bishkek, he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit meeting in the SCO+ format and events scheduled on its sidelines. He earlier met Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On the Armenian side, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, Security Council Secretary Alen Simonyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan attended the meeting with Aliyev. Azerbaijan’s delegation included Jeyhun Bayramov, Hikmet Hajiyev and Shahin Mustafayev.
