Military and military-technical cooperation with Armenia within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is not being conducted, but sectoral cooperation with Yerevan has been maintained on a bilateral basis, said Mikael Agasandyan, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s First Department for CIS Countries.
“At present, there is no cooperation with Armenia through the CSTO in the military, military-technical or other areas,” Agasandyan said when asked whether preferential terms for military-technical supplies within the CSTO apply to Yerevan, RIA Novosti reported.
The department director said cooperation with Yerevan in the relevant area has continued on a bilateral basis.
“There is the necessary legal framework, which, among other things, provides for supplies of military-purpose products on preferential terms,” he emphasized.
Earlier, Russia’s permanent representative to the CSTO, Viktor Vasilyev, said consensus would be required to adopt a decision depriving Armenia of voting rights in CSTO bodies. He said the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council would be held in Moscow on Nov. 11 and that the heads of state would likely discuss the issue as well.
Armenia froze its participation in the CSTO in 2024.
