Ruben Rubinyan had a phone conversation with Valentina Matviyenko.
Rubinyan noted that the restrictions on the export of Armenian goods to the Russian market are concerning and emphasized the importance of resolving the issue within the framework of the existing legal agreements between the two countries and the regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia and the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia also discussed the agenda of relations between Armenia and the European Union. Rubinyan mentioned that the expected referendum on Armenia's membership in the European Union, anticipated by the Russian Federation, could practically become possible only after Armenia officially applies to the European Union and the process enters a substantive phase.
Russia may deter Russian tourists from visiting Armenia if the practice of detaining Russian citizens regarding third countries continues there. The speaker of the Federation Council drew attention to the systematic detentions of Russian citizens in Armenia.
“Russian-Armenian relations currently resemble a ‘one-way street.’ Statements are made about the importance of maintaining relations with Russia, but these words often do not correspond to specific actions,” Matviyenko said.
The parties discussed the prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation. The importance of resuming the work of the bilateral inter-parliamentary commission was emphasized, with the next meeting scheduled to take place soon.
