Record Growth of Armenia's Reserves to $6.9 Billion

Armenia's international reserves increased by 40%

YEREVAN, August 24. /ARKA/. Armenia's international reserves increased by approximately 40% year-on-year, reaching a record $6.9 billion in June 2026, which contributed to strengthening the country's external reserves despite heightened geopolitical risks. This is stated in a report by the international rating agency S&P Global Ratings.

"Armenia's international reserves have significantly strengthened in 2026, providing an important buffer in conditions of increased geopolitical tension in the region," the review states.

Analysts note that the growth is due to the issuance of government eurobonds, purchases of foreign currency by the Central Bank, and significant financial and capital inflows from abroad.

"We expect that the country's international reserves will remain generally stable," the agency notes.

Earlier, the head of the Central Bank of Armenia, Martin Galstyan, stated that the regulator has revised its approaches to managing international reserves and in the updated reserves strategy decided not to include gold in their composition.

On June 18, the Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, Armen Nurbekyan, stated that since the beginning of the year, the regulator has acquired about $1.1 billion in foreign currency reserves.

The international rating agency Fitch Ratings previously projected that by 2028, Armenia's reserves would cover 3.6 months of current external payments compared to a median of 4.5 months for countries rated in the 'BB' category.
