Yerevan: Mediamax: It is cynical and unfair to use the opportunities of the EAEU if there is an intention to join the EU, stated the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin:
In an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel, Volodin, commenting on Armenia's intentions to join the European Union, noted that it is the right of a sovereign state to choose its direction of movement:
At the same time, he stated that “it is desirable for Armenia not to pursue a dual policy, because if Armenia adopts a law on intentions to join the European Union, then why are they using the opportunities of the EAEU? Why are they deceiving its participants? This is cynical, this is not right. Just say — we are going to the EU. Go ahead. In that case, there is no need to receive preferences here.”
He pointed out that almost 90% of Armenian products go to Russia. “We can acquire the same agricultural products from other countries. Everyone wants to sell their fruits and vegetables in our country. But for Armenia, as a member state of the EAEU, there are preferences. This is a matter of honesty and decency,” he added.
If Armenia wants to go to Europe, no one is stopping it, Volodin said. According to him, many were preparing to go there, including Ukraine. “They sacrificed everything for the sake of implementing the European Union line towards our country. People are dying. But even these sacrifices made by the leadership of Ukraine for the pleasure of the EU did not open borders for their agricultural products. A large number of people are dying for the European leaders and their policies. But they are still not allowed to sell goods in the EU territory. If Armenia thinks differently, that everything will work out for them, again — that is their choice,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
