Russian President Vladimir Putin will reiterate Moscow's stance on Yerevan's intention to join the EU during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek on September 1, stated Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president:
“Every high-level communication is important. The president will certainly use this meeting to reiterate our arguments. But we cannot be more Armenian than the Armenians themselves. And, of course, the Armenians will decide their fate themselves. And we suggest that they do this by holding a referendum,” Peskov said:
He reminded that the leaders of other EAEU countries also adopted a similar position, having issued a relevant statement at a recent summit in Astana:
