Premier League clubs are set to set a record for transfer spending this summer while simultaneously changing coaches at an unprecedented rate. This is reported by the Financial Times.
According to the article, just 12 days before the transfer window closes, the 20 clubs in England's top football division have collectively spent 2.7 billion euros on transfers ahead of the new season. The new season kicks off on Friday evening.
Spending has already surpassed last year's record pace: during the same period of last summer's transfer window, Premier League clubs spent 2.6 billion euros, according to Transfermarkt data.
This amount also exceeds the combined spending of all clubs in Italy's Serie A, Germany's Bundesliga, and Spain's La Liga, which totaled 2.3 billion euros this summer.
According to the publication, some of the biggest deals this summer include Morgan Rogers' transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea for 138 million euros and another England international, Elliott Anderson's move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for 135 million euros.
Chelsea has become the club with the highest spending this summer, having spent 408 million euros on transfers. Its London rival, Tottenham Hotspur, which narrowly avoided relegation last season, ranks second with spending of 267 million euros. The club acquired midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes for a total of 207 million euros, including bonuses.
