Armenia's Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, held a discussion at the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During the discussion, the minister announced a re-evaluation of the procedures for granting and terminating Armenian citizenship.
"We are re-evaluating the procedures for granting and terminating citizenship and embedding a new logic into the state-citizen relationship. The foundation for all other solutions we build should be our common understanding that the relationship between the state and the citizen must have a new quality," said Arpine Sargsyan.
The minister also emphasized that in the context of re-evaluating state-citizen relations, residency criteria will be mandatory, and there will be several other changes as well.
Armen Gazarayan, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, had previously stated that a legislative initiative addressing existing issues in the regulation of granting or terminating Armenian citizenship will be presented soon.
