Considering the crisis in the fuel market in Russia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today discussed what preventive measures the Armenian government plans to take to ensure stability in the domestic market. He noted that they have been preparing for this for a long time by eliminating “monopolies”:
“Look at what is happening in the world, but the Armenian oil products market did not experience what used to happen when someone sneezed — the Armenian oil products market was shaken. We have long prepared for this by eliminating monopolies. Today, there are dozens of gasoline importers in Armenia, there are new investments, new networks of gas stations, and this issue will be regulated by market mechanisms, we are confident.”
In Russia, there has been a fuel shortage for a month now. The situation is particularly bad in Crimea, which is occupied by Russia, where the sale of gasoline to civilians is completely prohibited. In several regions of Russia, the amount of fuel sold to one person is limited to 15-30 liters depending on the region. There is a shortage of gasoline, kilometer-long queues at gas stations, where sometimes fights occur.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the rise in prices is related to the global situation: “That is, we cannot avoid the global influence on prices in the oil products market. Another thing is that we have also seen events in the Persian Gulf, which are more or less balanced.”
According to these data, Armenia reduced gasoline imports from Russia almost threefold in 2025 compared to 2024:
