Pashinyan points to possible gas pipeline within TRIPP

The prime minister said Armenia would continue diversifying gas supplies.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said gas is not cheap for consumers in Armenia, arguing that the main issue lies in pricing between the border and the end user. He said that, compared with other countries, the biggest markup in Armenia emerges along that part of the supply chain.

Speaking to reporters after the government meeting, Pashinyan said Gazprom-Armenia is a profitable company and that this fact should be acknowledged. At the same time, he stressed that the authorities plan to pursue diversification in every sector where it is possible.

The prime minister said Armenia would continue to strengthen its independence and statehood, and that energy alternatives should be viewed in that context. He added that if Russia raises the price of gas, Armenia will also assess what it can increase or adjust on its side.

Pashinyan said that if there is an opportunity to bring in gas from a second, third or fourth source, Armenia will follow that path. He added that if it becomes possible for a gas pipeline to operate through TRIPP, that option would also be pursued.
