Pashinyan says first Armenia-Azerbaijan trade deal is signed

Trade relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan are developing

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed that the first commercial deal between Armenian and Azerbaijani companies has already taken place.

Referring to the foreign minister’s statement that trade would soon become bilateral and that Azerbaijani companies had already purchased goods from Armenian companies, the prime minister provided details about the process.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, the deal has effectively already taken place and a corresponding contract exists, but the government does not intervene in the details of agreements between private companies.

“The first deal has already taken place, but I would prefer for that transaction to be completed to the very end, and then, I think, the companies themselves will announce it. This is not something for the government to announce; we do not discuss such deals at that level of detail,” he said.

Pashinyan stressed that the executive branch’s main task is to create an appropriate political environment so that Armenian and Azerbaijani business communities can cooperate directly and assess their mutual economic interests.

The prime minister also said that after completing the internal procedures required under business regulations, the companies themselves would provide the public with the necessary information.

“There is a specific contract, and there is a deal. In my opinion, it is already a fact, but let the companies complete their internal procedures… There will be information about it, but I know that the deal already exists,” he said.

Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said it would become known in the coming days that Azerbaijani companies are buying goods from Armenian companies. He made the comment in response to a question suggesting that trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan appeared to be one-sided, with goods only coming from Azerbaijan to Armenia.

Another shipment has been made from Azerbaijan to Armenia: 17 tank cars loaded with diesel fuel, with a total weight of 989 tons, were dispatched from Balajari station.
