Pashinyan on possible gas price changes: no reason yet for a “Kikos’s death” scenario

The prime minister said the government would manage prices only if necessary.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented on the possibility of a gas price increase after a cabinet meeting, urging reporters not to approach the issue through the logic of “Kikos’s death.”

Pashinyan said the literary reference has played an important role in the country’s social and psychological mindset, but argued that every issue should not be viewed through the prism of the worst-case scenario.

The prime minister said Armenia is developing steadily and will continue to do so. If there is a need to manage any price, the government will act, he said, but if there is no such need, it will not intervene.

“When there is a problem requiring management of a certain price, we will manage it; if there is no need, we will not,” Pashinyan said, adding that operating continuously on the basis of hypothetical dangers is not the government’s working style.

He also said Armenia-Russia relations are multi-layered, with many problems, questions and opportunities within those ties, and that work in those areas is continuing.
