Pashinyan: Armenia rejects exclusive relations with EAEU

The Armenian Prime Minister speaks about the need to diversify relations with the EAEU

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters that he has never avoided expressing his assessments regarding the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

“The core issue is that there is an expectation of having an exclusive relationship, which we do not agree with. The rest concerns issues related to the import and export of goods, and we do not link preparations for those issues to this situation. One way or another, we must diversify our relations. Even if we return 100% to the previous situation now, our agenda will not change because of that,” he said.

The prime minister added that he had addressed these issues in his speech at the EAEU Council.

Pashinyan said in a conversation with reporters following an expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council that holding a referendum in Armenia on joining the European Union would become possible only after Armenia submits a formal application to the EU.

Addressing restrictions imposed by Russia on Armenian goods, Pashinyan said they create a negative perception of the EAEU.
