YEREVAN, August 20. /ARKA/. The statement by the leaders of four EAEU countries supporting the idea of holding a referendum in Armenia regarding EU membership was perceived as a friendly gesture rather than a demand, said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan:
“The statement by the leaders of the four EAEU countries notes that they support the idea of holding a referendum. The idea of holding a referendum actually belonged to us — we believed that at a certain stage a referendum should take place,” Pashinyan noted:
He stated that they presented their considerations regarding the timelines, while the Armenian side presented its own:
“Where is this demand recorded? I perceived this statement not as a demand, but as a friendly gesture. People stated that they share this position and do not oppose Armenia's agenda to deepen relations and membership in the EU,” Pashinyan said:
According to him, a balanced foreign policy is expressed precisely in the fact that Armenia is a member of the EAEU and the agenda includes the issue of developing relations with the member countries of the union. At the same time, the country has established strategic relations with the USA, Georgia, China, France, the Netherlands, and Kazakhstan:
