Armenia to Host COP17 Conference in 2026

The government has decided to allocate 2.641 billion drams from the reserve fund for organizing the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 17). Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan stated that the conference will take place in October 2026, with representatives from 196 countries participating.

According to the minister, organizational work is actively underway, and framework contracts have been signed. The total estimated cost for organizing the conference is around 2.641 billion drams, which includes the rental of 4 tents and the purchase of furniture and equipment.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of conducting COP17 at a high level, noting that 10,000-15,000 participants are expected, which presents a significant opportunity for tourism development. He highlighted that this investment also allows the Republic of Armenia to host events of any scale.
