Uzbekistan is considering whether to join the planned railway construction project linking Nakhchivan with Turkey. A working group has been set up in the country to study possible forms of participation and the practical steps involved.
Transport Minister Ilhom Makhkamov announced the move in an interview with O’zbekiston 24. He said the relevant instructions were issued following President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visits to Georgia and Azerbaijan.
According to Makhkamov, a separate working group has been established for each of these directions. He said the format is intended to assess the work already completed and define the tasks for the coming months.
The minister also said the Ministry of Transport had submitted reports on the work carried out, the results recorded and the steps planned through the end of the year. The ministry then received further instructions on how to proceed.
The initiative concerns the development of regional rail links and Uzbekistan’s assessment of potential involvement in such projects.
