Ukraine's State Debt Has Increased More Than 16 Times Since 2013

Ukraine's state debt has reached 212 billion dollars

YEREVAN, August 18. /ARKA/. Ukraine's state external and internal debt has increased more than 16 times since the end of 2013, or by $199 billion. This is according to calculations by TASS based on data from the country's Ministry of Finance.

As of the end of December 2013, the state external and internal debt was $13 billion at the current exchange rate of the National Bank of Ukraine, and as of June 30, it amounts to nearly $212 billion.

Earlier, TASS reported based on data from the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine that the state debt of the country has more than doubled since the beginning of 2022 — from $97.96 billion to $208.97 billion, or by $111.01 billion. The external debt has particularly increased — from $57.2 billion to $162.73 billion, almost tripling. About $10 billion of this amount is owed to the IMF, and the rest to various allied countries.

The sharp increase in debt occurred despite the fact that a significant portion of Western aid, primarily arms supplies, has been received and continues to be received by Ukraine on a non-repayable basis.

The Verkhovna Rada has calculated that it may take about 35 years to pay off the existing debt alone.
