Ukraine is requesting its partners in the European Union to allocate €6.6 billion available in the European Peace Fund for military assistance, considering that the next six to seven months on the front represent a 'window of opportunity,' Reuters reports.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov noted in a letter made available to Reuters that the country's total defense needs this year are estimated at around €136 billion. Of that, approximately €53 billion is expected to be covered by Kyiv's state budget.
Recently, Fedorov told Politico that Ukraine is seeking to quickly secure new military assistance from the West before Russia adapts to the latest developments on the front.
According to him, Kyiv believes that by striking Russian troops, logistical hubs, and oil infrastructure, it has managed to regain the initiative on the battlefield.
Ukraine is urging allies to fund a new package of drones, missiles, and military technologies that, according to Kyiv, could keep Russia under pressure and solidify recent gains.
'We need the next level of assistance to finish the job,' Fedorov told Politico.
