Ukrainian forces launched a drone attack on a Lukoil refinery in the Perm region, over 1,600 kilometers from the Ukraine-Russia border. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the strikes targeted the refinery and a military airbase in the Volgograd region.
“We continue, through our long-range strikes, to bring the consequences of the war back to where it came from,” Zelenskyy said.
Ukrainian media reported that a large fire broke out at Lukoil’s Permnefteorgsintez facility.
Dmitry Makhonin, the governor of the Perm region, noted that Russian forces shot down 16 drones, but one industrial facility was damaged.
This strike followed an earlier attack on a Rosneft refinery in Bashkortostan that also resulted in a fire.
For months, Ukraine has been targeting Russian oil refineries to pressure Putin into peace negotiations.
