Countries participating in the OPEC+ agreement increased oil production in August 2026 by 628,000 barrels per day from July, bringing total output to 29.633 million barrels per day, according to the alliance’s monthly report.
At the same time, actual production remained well below the planned level, undershooting the target by 6.39 million barrels per day. That means the output increase did not change the broader picture, with the group still trailing its agreed benchmarks.
Iraq was the main driver of the monthly increase. The country raised production by 664,000 barrels per day to 3.378 million barrels per day. Even so, Iraqi output remained 1.027 million barrels per day below the level set under the agreement.
Total oil production by Gulf countries — Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Iran and the UAE — stood at 19.457 million barrels per day, up 280,000 barrels per day from July. OPEC does not publish data for Qatar.
Besides Iraq, Kuwait and the UAE also increased production in the region. Kuwait added 49,000 barrels per day, taking output to 1.894 million barrels per day, though it still remained significantly below its quota. In the UAE, production rose by 54,000 barrels per day to 3.835 million barrels per day.
All other countries in the region posted declines. The sharpest drop was recorded in Iran, where production fell by 399,000 barrels per day to 2.086 million barrels per day. Saudi Arabia also cut output by 75,000 barrels per day to 7.276 million barrels per day. The kingdom’s shortfall versus quota reached 3.14 million barrels per day.
Russia, another major participant in the deal, also reduced production in August, by 160,000 barrels per day to 8.718 million barrels per day. That was 1.169 million barrels per day below its target level.
At the same time, Kazakhstan managed to increase production by 159,000 barrels per day to 1.807 million barrels per day. That was 189,000 barrels per day above the country’s OPEC+ quota. The report notes that Kazakhstan had repeatedly breached its commitments under the deal earlier as well, significantly exceeding the permitted production level.
Overall, OPEC members participating in the agreement increased production in August by 677,000 barrels per day to 15.66 million barrels per day, but that was still 4.846 million barrels per day below the planned level. Non-OPEC countries, by contrast, cut output by 49,000 barrels per day to 13.973 million barrels per day, leaving them 1.54 million barrels per day short of target.
