The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on August 31, 2026, in Bishkek, within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The leaders emphasized the historical significance of the preliminary signing of the agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was signed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev at the peace summit in Washington on August 8, 2025, with the testimony of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of grain and other goods from third countries through the territory of Azerbaijan to Armenia, as well as the establishment of trade relations between the two countries were highlighted as important practical manifestations of strengthening peace. The leaders also welcomed interactions between business communities and exchanged ideas on further expanding mutually beneficial economic, trade, and energy cooperation.
The parties noted the important role of the relevant state commissions on the delimitation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and emphasized the importance of continuing their work in accordance with the agreements reached between the two countries.
The leaders discussed further practical steps related to the implementation of one of the important outcomes of the peace summit in Washington — the “Trump Path to International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) and emphasized the importance of connectivity projects within the framework of TRIPP.
The leaders positively assessed the interactions involving parliamentarians and representatives of civil society aimed at building trust, noting their importance in supporting mutual trust and a broader peace agenda.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev agreed to continue actions through bilateral direct contacts aimed at strengthening sustainable peace, regulating interstate relations, and enhancing connectivity.
