The Moscow Tagan District Court has fined Telegram 14.6 million rubles (about $176,000) for failing to remove prohibited content. The news was reported by an Interfax correspondent from the courtroom.
The court's justification states that Telegram did not comply with the Russian authorities' demand and did not remove content banned in Russia.
Telegram has previously been fined multiple times in Russia for similar cases.
In late July, Russia initiated a criminal case against Telegram's founder Pavel Durov and issued an international warrant for his arrest on charges of "aiding terrorist activities."
