Moscow assures that it is open to restoring diplomatic relations with Tbilisi, but currently, this issue is not on the agenda. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that the initiative for restoring diplomatic relations should come from Georgia.
"We have repeatedly stated that we are open to such an opportunity, but today this issue is not on the agenda," Zakharova said. She also noted that the absence of diplomatic relations between Russia and Georgia is part of the tragic legacy of the presidency of former President Mikheil Saakashvili.
"As for signing agreements on non-use of force with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, we have long called on Georgia to do so," she added.
