Armenia is not holding consultations with its Eurasian Economic Union partners on preparations for joining the European Union. Mikhail Agasandyan, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s First Department of CIS Countries, said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“We see significant risks associated with Armenia’s legally established preparations for joining the European Union, which, incidentally, the Armenian authorities are carrying out without any consultations with their EAEU partners,” Agasandyan said.
In March 2025, Armenia’s parliament adopted a law on launching the process of Armenia’s accession to the European Union, and in April of the same year, it was signed by President Vahagn Khachaturyan. During a meeting with Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin said it was impossible to be simultaneously part of both the EU and the EAEU customs union.
