Meta has agreed to change the operation of Facebook and Instagram for teenagers following a lawsuit filed by 29 states in the U.S.
According to Reuters, Meta will pay approximately $17 billion and will change the operations of Instagram (owned by Meta) and Facebook (owned by Meta) as part of a settlement regarding lawsuits over harm to children from social media.
As reported by vedomosti.ru, the agreement resolves the lawsuits from 29 states in the U.S., where the company is accused of deliberately creating addiction among minors, misleading users about their safety, and illegally collecting children's personal data.
As part of the agreement, Meta will establish daily time limits for minors using Facebook and Instagram, restrict access to these platforms during nighttime hours, and strengthen measures to prevent children from accessing age-restricted content.
At the same time, the company has not admitted to any violations.
