In the UK, buying a Chinese "fake Range Rover" has been compared to betrayal, reports the Telegraph.
The article refers to the Jaecoo 7, a mid-sized, five-door, five-seater SUV that closely resembles the Velar and Evoque models produced by Jaguar Land Rover.
“However, the most obvious difference is that the Jaecoo will cost you about half as much as a premium Range Rover. The Jaecoo 8 can be purchased for £45,000. If you want a genuine Range Rover Sport, its price is £77,000, while leading models require over £100,000,” the article states.
Of course, price is not the only difference. The Range Rover is a genuine brand, a vehicle that embodies the pride of one of the world's largest brands. However, as noted in the article, many Britons prefer the Chinese vehicle to the original, and that is the problem.
The author of the publication believes that if a Briton cannot afford an expensive, “genuine” item, then they should not buy it at all. Moreover, they should not “bow down before a Chinese beast.”
Earlier, the Carwow portal conducted a study on the UK car market. The survey results showed that nearly half of British drivers, 49%, are considering the possibility of purchasing a Chinese car. This is almost twice the figure from three years ago when it was only 24%.
Additionally, over the past year, the recognition of brands such as Jaecoo has significantly increased, from 46% to 69%, Chery from 16% to 50%, Omoda from 42% to 57%, and BYD to 71%.
